Enhanced target normal sheath acceleration with a grooved hydrocarbon target

The interaction of a high-intensity ultrashort laser pulse with few microns-thick hydrocarbon target is known to accelerate protons/ions multi-MeV, on the rear side target, via mechanism normal sheath acceleration. Micro-structuring front one promising approaches enhance cut-off energy as well reduce divergence accelerated protons/ions. In this paper, normally incident intense targets having single micron-sized grooves, at their side, semi-circular, triangular, and rectangular shapes has been studied by using two-dimensional Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulations. It observed that compared flat for groove focused hot electron beam results in an approximately four-fold increase protons. For triangular semi-circular targets, remains comparatively lower (higher than though). angular also found be relatively much case groove.
